Passing away of my Vice queen

    Tuesday, July 15, 2008, 8:34 PM [General]

It is with a sad and heavy heart that I tell you of the passing away of my Vice Queen,  and best friend Debbie Davidson.  Our Chapter  -  The Red Hat Valley Gals from Pembroke, Ontario  -- are in shock. Debbie's death was very sudden and unexpected.

Debbie and her husband had been out to an  25th Anniversay party for a relative.  About 1:30 am on Sunday morning she went upstairs to get ready for bed.  About 10 minutes later ( after closing windows and locking the doors) Larry went up to go to bed.  He noticed the bathroom light on and went in to turn it off and he found her lying on the bathroom floor.  Paramedics were called but all attempts to revive her failed.

Debbie  had a vibrant personality .  If someone mentioned the word FUN she was always the first in line to enjoy it.  Whenever I was planning an event for out chapter Debbie was always there to help with the details.  There will definitely be a huge void in our chapter as well as my heart.

The family has requested us to attend the funeral in full regalia and lots of BLING.  The saying " There is no such thing as too much bling" described Debbie.

3rd Annual Meet & Mingle Hoot

    Sunday, May 4, 2008, 4:36 PM [General]

On April 24th  The Red Hat Valley Gals from Pembroke, Ontario hosted their 3rd Annual Meet & Mingle Hoot.  The theme this year was "Cinderella's Ball".  We had the entrance transformed to look like the doors of a Castle.  After the ladies entered they were escorted to their tables by one of our two Prince Charmings.  Myself  Queen Terri and my VQueen Debbie convinced our DH's to get dressed in their tuxes and do this for us.

There were several vendors present which all 75 ladies keep busy throughout the evening. Our tables had glass slippers on top of champagne glasses filled with sparkly purple glitter straw.  Each lady had a red or pink paper shoe decorated with glitter at their place.  We had a band that played all the oldies for us to dance to.

The mayor was invited and after a lovely ham supper he gave a nice speech about taking time from our hectic lives to have fun -  just as we do at our events.  He said that it was the most colorful he had ever seen the hall decorated.   Before the supper Pam presented the 2 Prince Charmings and the Mayor with bibs to wear (she made them) so they wouldn't drop anything on their tuxes or His Worships Chain of Office.   That got a big laugh from all there.

After the speech our local newspaper reporter arrived for photos and to get the story .  The next day on the front page was a big picture of myself and Debbie both giving the Mayor a smooch on the cheek for being such a great fellow to attend an event with all those women.   Check out the photos I've posted in my gallery.

Terri, I agree, there's no such thing as too much bling especially when we're sending a fellow Redhatter on her way to Heaven. I went to a Redhat Queen's funeral and we made a very impressive display of red and purple with representation from other chapters. I am sure your Vice Queen was watching with approval and joy from above.

Dear Terri, I have not been on this site for a month but heard from Diva Geri about the sudden passing of Debbie. I cannot express my sorrow at hearing of the tragic loss of such a wonderful and fun-spirited person. It was such a pleasure to meet you all at the Hats on in Hamilton Convention. Please accept my deepest condolences to you and your Chapter and also to Debbie's family. Sincerely, Jeannie Hope V.Q. Steel Magnolias in Hamilton
