Surprise Luncheon for one of our ladies

    Saturday, January 19, 2008, 8:48 PM [General]

Today we had a surprise luncheon at a local restaurant for one of our dear ladies.

Last summer she tripped and fell breaking her hip.  She had to have surgery and had many complications.  As she put it, "It's amazing how one second can change your life forever."

She has been unable to walk and, therefore, cannot attend our events.  Our ladies decided to plan a surprise for her as she has been missed by all.

I hope you will enjoy the following photos.  We all had a great time visiting and everyone made her a card.

QUEEN GABBY Absolutely it's worth it! I think Red Hatting is the most wonderful thing for women!! We've a few male friends who've lost their wives and they are lost and lonely and can not travel or do things they've worked all their lives in order to do. Men don't travel together. Women, when alone or not can go to theatre, movies, lunch, dinner or cruises and conventions and be totally surrounded by other women in red hats who care! They never need be alone. We are so very fortunate!!!! Even my husband thinks the Red Hat Society is the most wonderful thing for women everywhere!!!

Long story short: Apparently some red hatters attended a parade and one injured her ankle. She sued the Queen Mum, the person who sent the email announcing the event and the one who planned the outting. She sued for $810,000.00 and settled out of court much later for $200,000.00 She had been a friend of the QM's for over 30 years. Of course the ladies involved all lost their "claim free status" on their insurance, had to pay their deductible and probably legal fees? and their own insurance rates went way up for next several years - not to mention the sleepless nights worrying about the outcome. A most unpleasant situation for all. I must add that the need for insurance in Canada is different from that of chapters in the USA. Our laws are different. We have no protection for our homes in cases of bankruptcy or law suits against us. Should someone sue us we could potentially lose our home and life savings and be left with nothing. It is my understanding from conversations with the RHS lawyer and others, that in the USA your primary home is protected.
