Made a red hat bag. Used the "Sisterhood of Purple" material on the outside along with soft purple leatherette and red polypro for the top trim and handles. The inside fabric is purple and white stripes going verticle for the lining with the same striped fabric going horizontal for the pockets. Used the Lazy Girls Design Miranda Day Bag pattern for making it. Made it smaller than the full size. At the bottom its only 9 inches wide instead of the twelve inches and the debth is only 4 inches instead of the 6 inches. There's more photos of it in the Public Gallery.
Walmart's Fabric Departments
Sad to say that I got word from some of my crafty Lazy Girl Designs Internet friends that Walmart's is closing down all of their all-service fabric departments all over the country. Some of the LG's reported in our daily newsletter that some of them have already been pulled in the states that they live in.
Imagine going into their local store and finding the fabric department completely gone, especially if going to purchase some fabric, with no advanced notice of same. That's what happened to some of the Lazy Girls.
There's a petition in the works to be sent to Walmart's asking them to re-open the ones that they already closed down and to keep open the rest of the fabric departments. It was mentioned in the Lazy Girl Designs Yahoo Groups website/newsletter with the link to same.. Don't know if it will help or not, but, nothing to loose in trying.
I'd really be lost if they closed down our fabric department in our local store. That's one of the main reasons I go to their store, to check out the material/fabric department. Even if I go in for something else, I usually make a trip to the fabric department.......
The fabric I used on the purse below in the previous Blog, I bought in their store several years back, like around 1994ish. that's the date on the Daisy Kingdom fabric selvage. Most of the time when I see a fabric I like, I add it to my stash, and, when I'm in the mood to sew, I just check out my stash, as I did for that purse...... Peggy

Thanks so much for the reply! I have gotten fabric from ebay. I was at a Red Hat Convergence in Kalispell Montana last September and found a fabric store that had red hat fabric... I bought all they had, plus I got some great tea cup and tea pot prints and panels... I also use the fabric by putting it through my scanner and making a block for it, then I use the prints to print out on the fabric squares...makes the fabric go farther... I make a real cute "post a note covers" and can get 3 from a sheet of printed fabric... the gals love them... and its so cheep and easy to make (especially when I can get the fabric printable sheets for half off at Joann's)!
