About Me Married, have two sons, two stepsons, five grandkids. I work as an IP litigation/trademark/patent prosecution secretary and spend my free time socializing, reading, walking, laughing, in-line skating, kayaking, organizing Red Hat activities, and relishing a well-deserved second childhood. It all started when my husband brought me a Red Hat t-shirt from Reno after one of his trips, although at the time I had no idea that the Red Hat Society even existed or what it was. He remarked over the fact that he had seen three red hatted ladies dressed in purple who were laughing up a storm and having a blast at one of the slot machines in one of casinos. He suggested that I look into the RHS and join a chapter. I totally agreed. I didn't receive responses from any of the "open" chapters in my area when I inquired, which I found very discouraging. Sooooo...I called a handful of some dear, long-term friends and the rest is herstory. Here I am, Queen Mum of my very own chapter of 20 fun-loving ladies and lovin' it!

I'm looking forward to (semi) retirement in a year or two and then find myself a niche somewhere for doing volunteer work with the "throw away kids" - you know, the ones that no one wants any more or care about or don't have time for. I'm realistic enough to know that I won't be able to perform miracles, but I'd at least like them to know, if nothing else, that someone cares.
Interests It says most of it in "About Me." I'm willing to try almost anything at least once.

Pet(s) I have two little cat ladies that were ferals once upon a time. We fed them during the chilly, rainy months typical of central California and finally got their mutual stamp of approval; they decided to move right in. Princess (aka Velcro) is a very noisy, demanding little Siamese. And then there's Katie, our quiet little furbaby girl, who's like nuzzling cashmere.

    My Daily Inspiration

    Sunday, May 4, 2008, 10:14 AM [General]

Sometimes it's so hard to get up and meet the day.  Here's an inspiration that I read frequently and cherish, something written by poet Max Ehrmann.  Never heard of him previous to reading this, but his words have been a huge comfort.

    The Desiderata
    written by Max Ehrmann, 1927

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it's a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
