Let's Be GREEN ~ Spending the Summer.. with Frogs

Tuesday, July 29, 2008, 12:24 AM EST [General]
    Posted By: Mitsie2

I was going through some old notebooks
last week, and found a little notebook
in the shape of a FROG, with green frog face
shaped pages. On those pages, were these
    fascinating tidbits, about FROGS.
I used to use these for events at the library
    during the Summer months.
    (and no, I did not dress up as a giant frog;
although... that's an idea! LOL )

Posted here.. for you to enjoy.
    Share them with the children
(of all ages) in your life!

    Why are frogs so happy?
    They eat whatever bugs them!

What does a frog wear on St. Pat's Day?
    Nothing!

What did the frog dress up as for Halloween?
    A prince.

What is a frog's favorite car?
    The Beetle

    What's green and jumps?
    A frog. (lol)

    What's green and red?
    A bad-tempered frog

What do you call a frog that crosses
the road, jumps in a puddle, and crosses
    the road again?
    A dirty double crosser.

What's green green green green green?
A frog rolling down the hill.

What is a frogs favorite time?
    Leap year!

Why did the frog go to the Mall?
Because he wanted to go hopping.

How can you tell if a frog doesn't have ears?
You yell "free flies" and he doesn't come.

What did the frog say to the fly?
You are really starting to bug me!

What does a frog say when it
    sees something great?
    Toadally awesome!

    What do old-fashioned frogs wear?
    Jumpsuits

Top 4 Reasons Why it's Great to be a Frog
    1) Girls are always kissing you because
they think you'll turn into a prince
    2) Flies in your soup are a bonus
    3) Green goes with absolutely everything
    4) Pond Scum is a term of endearment

    What's green with red spots?
A frog with the chicken pox

    What's green with bumps
    A frog with the measles

What's black and white and green?
A frog sitting on a newspaper.

What do you say to a hitch-hiking frog?
    Hop in!

What happens when 2 frogs collide?
    They get tongue-tied.

What do frogs do with paper?
    Rip-it.

What did 1 frog say to another?
    You're such a WART!

How come the frog didn't get to
    be the Easter Bunny?
    Slippery hands.
They were afraid he'd drop the eggs.

    LOL

A Few Facts about Frogs (for real)

    Funniest name of a Frog:
    Bumpy Rocketfrog (Australia)

    Name I like the best:
    Waxy Monkey Tree Frog

    Large frogs have DEEP voices,
meaning they call at a low fregquency.

Some frogs sing in high chirps, meaning
they're calling at a high frequency.

Cold frogs repeat their calls at a
    slower rate because the muscles
    controling the sounds slow down.

    Why do frogs sing?

    1) They're trying to attract a mate:
    "HEY! Baby!"

    2) They're marking their territory
    "This is MY lilypad!"

    3) They are frightened:
    "Eek!"

    4) They know the weather is going to
    change: "RAIN!!"

(gee, maybe we should listen to frogs
to get the weather for the next day,
instead of the weather forecasters on TV...
    ..... LOL)

Sure hope you have enjoyed this little
    "frog session", compliments of
    *Smiley the Happy Face Clown*.

It's not a PARTY... unless... we EAT.

    LOL

What did the frog order at MacDonald's?
French flies and a diet Croak

I suggest, instead of a "froggie feast" of french flies
& a diet Croak..... that you make chocolate
covered ants, er, pretzels, for a snack.
    The kids love them!!
For a "quickie" version.. melt chocolate chips
over a campfire in a  double boiler, then pour
the chocolate over heaps of pretzels
(sticks are easier to hold on to to eat)
placed on wax paper. Let cool.
The kids will eat them by the handfuls.
It might be a good idea to have glasses
    of lemonade handy, as well.

    Enjoy your frog-filled Summer!!

    LOL

Days to Celebrate ~ the Last Week of June!!

Wednesday, June 25, 2008, 02:45 AM EST [General]
    Posted By: Mitsie2

Special Days to Celebrate... during the 4th week of June.

Well, I'm a bit late today, er, for yesterday.
I needed to be several people yesterday,
as I had a LOT of posting to do!
Not to mention... getting ready for (another)
yard sale on Saturday, barring RAIN, of course.

On to the special things to celebrate this
4th and last week in June.

    ~~*~~~*~~

    4th Week
    Carpenter Ant Awareness Week
    National Camping Week

     Hmmm.... Carpenter Ant Awareness Week?
I won't mention the ONE carpenter ant I saw climbing up
over the side of our sofa! (Ick). Not like years ago when
there used to be dozens of them doing that!
Thank heavens that hasn't happened for a number of years!

Not planning (at this time.. lol) to do any searches on why
this 4th week of June is dedicated to carpenter ants!!

    It's also National Camping Week
Here is a website with camping and picnic coloring, plus
Creative Snacks to Make, and a few other ideas for
    camping fun for children.
    http://familycrafts.about.com/od/campingandpicniccrafts/Camping_and_Picnic_Crafts.htm

    The coming week's "celebrations"

24 - U.F.O. Day / Museum Comes To Life Day
25 - LEON Day (6 months until Christmas Day)
            Log Cabin Day
26 - Nationall Chocolate Pudding Day
    27 - National Columnists Day. It's also:
            Captain Kangaroo's Birthday,
            Helen Keller's Birthday, and the
Anniversary of the Melody for Happy Birthday Song
    28 - Paul Bunyan Day
    29 - Camera Day
    30 - Meteor Day

Daily.. with urls to check out

    24 - U.F.O. Day

    Today.. WAS .... U.F.O. Day
First documented UFO sighting on this day.
    http://familycrafts.about.com/cs/outerspace/l/blspship1.htm
contains instructions on how to make a homemade flying saucer
from a paper plate. THOSE are the only flying saucers *I* want to see!!
I live very near to Shag Harbour, N.S. where there was a U.F.O. sighting
in the 1960's, (or was that the early 1970's?) I try to ignore it as much
as possible. I'm fairly chicken when it comes to things of the "unknown".
I'd rather be... red hatting!! (LOL)

25 - LEON Day (6 months until Christmas Day)

SIX months until Christmas!! How many of you have started your
Christmas shopping yet? How many of you never stop Christmas
    shopping ..... LOL (me me!!)
LEON is NOEL spelled backwards. It means 6 months until Christmas.

On this page you will find.. links for 20 things to do for Christmas!

26 - Nationall Chocolate Pudding Day

Well, of course, that's easy!! Pig out on chocolate pudding! LOL
Make the "real" kind.. you know, cooked on the stove.
Tastes MUCH better than the store-bought in a tub kind, or
    even the "instant" chocolate pudding.
For something really different (and FUN) to do.. LOL, with the
instant chocolate (and other flavors) pudding

    Finger Painting with chocolate pudding!!
I'm game, if you are! Sounds like a right old mess (lol)
It's one craft where we get to lick our fingers afterwards!!

    27 - Nationall Columnists Day

Well, I don't have a link for this special day. BUT, there
are other things to celebrate on the 27th!

I'll be back before the end of the week
to list the Special Days to Celebrate in July....
    stay tuned!!

Pictures of Hubcaps & Special Days to Celebrate

Tuesday, June 17, 2008, 11:25 AM EST [General]
    Posted By: Mitsie2

    Pictures of hubcaps?

    LOL

    I've re-started (is that a word?) an
OLD craft of mine (from 20+ years ago!)

    Making hubcap clocks!!

A little story... I had to junk my car; I LOVED my car!
(I've loved ALL of my cars, over the years)

    I saved a hubcap as a "souvenir".
The garage owner suggested I "hang it on the wall".

    LOL.

One of those "lightbulb" moments happened!!

Make a CLOCK out of it!

    I did!!

What FUN my son (then 5 years old) and I had,
travelling the roads of Nova Scotia, hunting for
hubcaps in salvage yards, and trading off
already made clocks for those hubcaps.

All in all, over a 5 year time frame..
I sold/ traded 100 or so of these clocks!

I sit in the sun, washing them, polishing them,
    putting them together...
    VERY relaxing!!

I've now got 3 in a local garage "on consignment"
and will be giving away one as a "prize" at
a local Antique Auto Show in July.

It's FUN to revisit the past!!

So, I'm celebrating this week as:

    Revisit an old hobby week!!

    LOLOL

Well, so much for that.... now let's see
what is REALLY listed to celebrate
    this 3rd week of June!

Back in a flash with the listing....

(We have slow lightening flashes around here.... LOL)

    ~~*~~~*~~~*~~

Ways & Reasons to Celebrate the Third Week of June 2008

I posted last week that yesterday was going to be a day
    to celebrate....
FUDGE, and then do some hollerin' about it!!
Did you? I did that on Sunday.... lol

Here's a listing of the upcoming special days to
    celebrate this coming week.
Further descriptions and ideas are posted below,
    and in the FORUM.

I'm SURE there is something here "interesting"
for you all to find to do this week!

    Eat your Vegetables day

I like veggies! Didn't as a kid, though.
Here is a wordsearch puzzle for you (or your children/grandchildren)
to do, after (or before) they eat their daily veggies!
    http://homeschooling.about.com/od/freeprintables/ss/vegetableprint.htm

I'm sure if you google "vegetables" you'll find all kinds
of recipes for healthy tips for cooking your veggies.
Personally, I like the "Marshmallow topped Sweet Potatoes"
that my SIL makes for family gatherings the best! LOL

     ~~*~~~*~~

    18 - International Picnic Day

    Going for a picnic ....
    in the rain. Hmmmm.
    Not.
Think I'll have a "teddy bear picnic" INDOORS.
    With my cats. (chuckle)

Here are some ideas for things to make
and or do, for YOUR picnic day!
    http://familycrafts.about.com/od/campingandpicniccrafts/Camping_and_Picnic_Crafts.htm

Featured Ideas and their site links are posted in my FORUM, check it out!!

    ~~*~~~*~~

    19 - World Sauntering Day / Juneteenth

AND.... Garfield's Birthday (debuted in 1978)

Being a CAT lover, I just HAVE to post a bit about this "special" day!!

Well, the site was ALL advertising (sigh) so when
I have a chance (sometime before Thursday... lol)
I'll google Garfield the Cat, and see what links
I can find for us "cat lovers".

    Moving on.....

    Juneteenth

    http://www.juneteenth.com/

    Definitely something to celebrate!!

World Sauntering Day.. not found on this site, I'll be googling it, whenever.

    Bald Eagle Day

I'm sure there are 100's of websites with more
"grown-up" reasons to celebrate this day.
However, the Family Crafts website gives us
    a beaded pin to make.
    http://familycrafts.about.com/cs/beadedsafetypins/l/blspeagle.htm

    Ice Cream Soda Day

I LIKE this idea! No calories! LOL

    May will SOON be here!!

I posted a thread at the old QMB with the remaining days to Celebrate in April, and it disappeared right on down the board, with no posts on it.

I'll be starting to post (in this forum) the Special Days to Celebrate.. over the next few days. Forgetting April, as it's almost past, and moving right on into May.

SPRING is HERE!! The weather is beautiful!! There needs to be MANY more hours in a DAY!! LOL

The only meandering I've been doing lately... is out in my backyard, and over at the beach..... (grin)

"See" you in a few days!!

    Mitsie, meandering along.....
