    WOW it's been awhile

Saturday, November 14, 2009, 07:01 PM EST [General]

It's been quite a while since I was on here-- having trouble juggling all the other sites I visit too (Star Trek, Harry Potter, QMB, my webpages) and of course the ever loathed- housework--  ugh!!

Anyway - here's a photo of us from Oct--  started planning for the new year!

    At the Mini-Vention

Friday, October 31, 2008, 12:27 PM EST [General]

Hi!  Four of my chapter went to a local (well kind of- 3 hrs away) Mini-vention in Hudson valley, NY.  It was a first for some of us.  What a wonderful time we had-  two nights and 6 meals later- many new friends- what more could a woman want?

There were door prizes at each meal, a Red Hat competition, Costume contest and door contest.   We went as a herd of Purple Cows (rather see than be one).  I made a Wizard of Oz hat - sadly didn't win the contest, but have a few kids that want to borrow it for Halloween.

And the entertainment!!  Queen Genevieve planned wonderful entertainment for us - I was hysterical during  much of the shows and amazed at how well they sang.  Danced my feet off at the cocktail party-  I'm wearing comfortable shoes from now on!!  Skip the heels that glow.

Of course there was shopping and eating.  Did I really need another hat?  Still  I bought a hat and a red Cleopatra hat anyway.

Was truly sad to end the trip and would have liked to prolong the time with new friends.  Maybe that's why the bus we rented got hung up on a turn- got an hour more with friends.  Of course we could just stand around waiting for the bus to be towed off the deep dip.

We had such a good time-- hoping more of my ladies can make it next year.

Looking forward to going to Jones Beach this Sunday to meet Long Island Red Hatters!!!!

    Our Olympics

Thursday, August 28, 2008, 06:25 PM EST [General]

    Hi-

My chapter had it's mothly gathering, during which we held a 'Red Hat Olympics'.

We had so much fun - laughing and giggling.  At first they were worried they wouldn't be able to do the games.  (Even had a few say they would be judges-- no way- had the kids as built in judges- impartial too).

We started the evening with our rendition of the Olympic Theme - on Kazoos, of course.  Our VIce Queen ran the torch up the stairs- totally shocking everyone!

We had such games as: Olympic Ring Toss, Hurdles, Weight-lifting, Javelin Throw, Shot-Put, and a wet T-shirt contest.

I gave out home-made gold awards, and then particpation awards.

We ended with pot-luck dinner and dessert!!   (I'm finally getting them to get a little siller!!!)

My nephew took pictures of us all and made it into a video-- hope you enjoy it.

    Fun

Sunday, June 8, 2008, 10:20 PM EST [General]

    It's been a while-

My chapter had a great time at a Trivia Luncheon recently.  Hosted by the Crismon Chapeaux, who did a wonderful job.   Each table gave themselves a fanciful new name-- we were the Magnificent 7 + 3.  In between courses, categories of trivia questions were read, and points were awarded for correct answers, according to how sure you were of the answer.

Our table started out slowly, but  ended up victorious!!  We gained some new friends- the best prize around!

We then went on a winery tour 3 days later-  who could have guessed that the weather would decide to get HOT & steamy that day?!

First we went shopping-- at a darling little shoppe-- (got a new hat- but have to wait until my birthday to actually ownit - Mom bought it).  Lunch and then off for our tour.

Toured the Borghese Winery, and our tour guide was the owner!  She was marvelous! It was a pleasure - she truely seemed to love what she was doing. (besides being an actual princess- she married a prince!)  The tasting was interesting and after we listened to music on the grounds.  Our ride home, we still shopped-- flowers and pies.

    Teddy Bear Tea

Monday, February 18, 2008, 10:06 PM EST [General]

Today, my chapter had a Teddy Bear Tea.  The nicest part about it was that it was planned by one of my members!   It's been a year and I've just gotten around to getting the ladies to host a monthly gathering.   took the advice of alot of you and set up guidelines. I'm hoping it will continue.  Next month 2 women are planning a game night.

The tea was fun.  We all brought bear to share the story of.  The food was excellent.  And the Hostess printed up some word games.  We had such fun laughing, eating and gaming,  we totally forgot about our furry friends.   At least we got them in the picture!

Well, off to figure out why my webpage is not playing music anymore.  Hope you all have a good night!

    Celebrate Martin Luther King

Monday, January 21, 2008, 08:58 PM EST [General]

Just wanted to share a wonderful experience we had last evening.

My Mom's church along with the many other faiths in the region, had an ecumenical celebration of Martin Luther King.

There was 10 choirs, speakers from the different faiths, there was even dancing to one song and we did sign language to another.  It was so moving and beautiful.  And so enlightening to hear from faiths other than my own.  AND three of the ministers were women!! (yee ha)

Sadly, as with most events in a church, we didn't have as many in the congregation as we would have liked.  Maybe next year..

But with all of us in the rec center afterwards- talking and laughing together- maybe his dream is still alive.

    Tea with 'Ethel'

Sunday, January 6, 2008, 09:35 PM EST [General]

Let me tell you about a great time my chapter had recently.
We went to a High Tea with Ethel Merman!! Actually the show was set as Faye Emerson's talk show from 1961. We were told about Ethel's life through the talk show, interspersed with her signature songs.
The woman who played Ethel (Carolyn Benson) was marvelous, as were Christine Jordan & Lois Goelz!!
We had a High Tea afterwards with the actresses coming around to greet all of us-- they never came out of character! It was fun.
The Best thing was, that I had been contacted about this outing by another queen I had met at my first multi-chapter event! And I met a few more to join with on future outings!
It was also the first time most of my members had done anything with any other Red Hatters. It may help them open up a little.
I was so very happy with the day, I wanted to share it with you all.
