    Daylight in the evening!!

    Sunday, March 9, 2008, 6:30 PM [General]

Happy beginning of a new week, everyone!  It's 6:30 pm here in the Pacific NW and it's still daylight outside!  I love it!  Of course, I didn't much like losing that hour during the night as I worked a hard day yesterday - 12 hours of patients hacking and coughing all over me!  Lord, there are a couple of terrible bugs out there.  The flu seems to be hitting everyone - 2 types - one is the respiratory kind and the other the intestinal kind.  People are severely ill with it.

Dudley, my little Maltese, and I went to his puppy classes again today.  He's still not doing the sit/lay down/sit thing.  He sits beautifully, but forget the rest!  He did everything else well tho so we will continue to work on it.

The rest of the day I spent trying to upload photos to my gallery here on the QMB2.  I'm ready to pull my hair out!!  Somehow when I first started here I managed to upload 3 pictures using photobucket.  Well, today, I couldn't get anything to upload and I hate it when I can't figure computer things out.  Plus, I can't remember how I did the first 3.  I really am a 'puter dummy!   Will try again tomorrow after work.

Hope everyone had a restful Sunday!

    The end of another week

    Friday, March 7, 2008, 8:25 PM [General]

Friday again and for most the end of a work week.  We nurses don't really have an 'end of the week' at least not in the usual sense.  It may fall anywhere in the 7 days.  Unfortunately, people are ill 24/7 and need care.

I did accomplish several things this week, including primroses on the deck!  It really lifts my spirits as I walk by during the day and see them, especially the yellow ones.  I don't know why, but yellow seems such a hopeful color...spring is just around the corner!!  Yea!

It's 8:30 pm here in the Pacific NW and my dogs are all asleep.  I intend to do the same shortly.  Work tomorrow which means getting up at 0430 :(  I don't mind once I'm up, showered, coffeed and moving with a stable gait,) but dread the thought as I tuck myself in the night before.  But, as my daughter tells me...'stifle yourself Mom!  You know you don't need to do it if you didn't want to...' and she's right.  I am retired, you know!  But, I do enjoy the occasional work day now that I don't have as many as I did for all  those years!

For you Clutter Kickin' ladies, I did get my kitchen counter de-cluttered and tidied up but that's about all I did in that endeavor.  Next week, I tell myself.   When I read your comments regarding all you have accomplished I feel ashamed of myself!

Well, nighti night and sweet dreams to you all.  Have a great weekend!

    New Group

    Wednesday, March 5, 2008, 5:36 PM [General]

Just a short note to let you know I've started a group for discussion and sharing of concerns regarding family or friends fighting chemical dependency.  I'm amazed I got it up without too much trouble altho the picture that was to go with it doesn't show even tho the setup wizard said it was correct.

My hope is that anyone who is dealing with this type of thing may find some support, comfort and maybe some helpful suggestions in this group.  I know from experience it's a very difficult thing to deal with.  I also know that there isn't a family that isn't touched by it in some way.

This group is not for people fighting their own dependency problems, altho they would be welcome if they find it helpful.  It's for us, the mother's, grandmother's, sisters and friends of others fighting their disease.

    Another day...

    Tuesday, March 4, 2008, 8:37 AM [General]

Gosh, it's Tueday already and I haven't really accomplished anything significant.  I have great hopes for today!

I have a new recipe to try and my plan is to do it today.  It is called 'thin bread' and is a flat bread of the Scandinavian style with anise flavoring.  Tried it at my cousin's house several weeks ago and really liked it.  Thought it would go well with the soup I serve at my Red Hat soup suppers.  We'll see how it goes.

Dudley and I are still working on his 'sit, lay down, sit back up' routine.  He still doesn't have it!   Sits like a champ and then when I don't give him the treat because he didn't lie down, he looks at me like he can't figure out what's going on.  I'm tempted to give him the treat anyway, but I know that would defeat the purpose.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

My week with the Flu, Grandkids and Puppy

    Sunday, March 2, 2008, 7:29 PM [General]

Well, not sure what I'm doing here, but thought I'd jump in.  It's all a learning experience, right?

The dreaded FLU got ahold of me last week and I thought I might die!  But, I didn't so after several days of illness was able to keep my 'date' with my grandchildren for 3 days at the beach, staying in a hotel with an indoor pool.  Apparently, 'the pool' is the biggest attraction ever, at least to my grandchildren.  Of course, we live in wet and cold western WA and there are no opportunities to swim this time of year.  So it was a real treat for them.

My daughter went along with us which was nice.  I think I was more tired than the kids even tho I wasn't in the pool.  I declined after swimming with my 13 yr. old grandaughter several months ago and she laughingly told me I looked like a pumpkin...a reference to my rounded body encased in a reddish swim suit.  Rude little poop!  But, it was no doubt true.

Now we are home again and back to the everyday things in life.  Today I took my youngest dog for his 2nd puppy training class.  He now can sit on command but needs some work in sitting and then going into a lying down position.  So that will be our focus this next week.  It's kinda fun, but we have to travel 1 1/2 hours to get to the classes so it takes up most of the day.

This is Dudley, my 7 mo. old Maltese guy...
