Life List of Birds?

Does anyone else keep a life list of the birds you've seen and/or heard in your lifetime?

Mine isn't very long, but I haven't been "religious" about updating it and I don't go on migratory bird outings (which is probably where you would really see the most). And I don't think my property here is on the "flyway" for migratory birds.

But I counted 63 that I can remember when going through a list of North American birds (but I also added two I saw in Ireland--a magpie and a song thrush). I might have forgotten some, though.

If anyone is interested in going over a list and highlighting the ones they remember seeing, I have the list in Microsoft Word and can e-mail it upon request. My e-mail is rfox58@windstream.net. I just use the Word highlighting tool to identify mine (yellow for ones I saw in North America and green for those in Ireland).

I'm at 64 now. I forgot the Killdeer until I saw it at the cemetery this evening.

Re: Life List of Birds?

I was just browsing this message board again, and saw your posting.

A life list of the birds you've seen? That sounds like a really good idea.

I've never done one, but would love to start.

I'm not sure I can remember all the birds I've ever seen, though. I can go back
through my photos, as I've taken a lot of pictures of birds throughout the years.

I will be in contact with you, some time this week, or maybe on the weekend.

This is my day off, and it's time to go grocery shopping for dinner makins'.

Thank you, Rita,  for posting this idea.

Re: Life List of Birds?

I haven't had a chance to do anything with this idea, and likely won't until next Spring.

Thank you anyway for putting it here.

Re: Life List of Birds?

I've heard a crow out in the woods that sounds like a quail, and then it makes a sound like a cat. Chucka chucka chucka mew mew.

According to my research, crows are great imitators. Who would have thought that there is a crow who thinks he's a mockingbird, here in my woods.

I have been taking photos of a lot of birds, and am beginning to know them by name. I can't post the pictures, as I only use an SLR camera. I have a photo of the talking crow, but it is from a long distance away, and he is just a speck in the top of the tree against the sunset sky.

Am I the only one who is reading this forum?
No-one has posted since I did, in August.

Where is everyone?

Re: Life List of Birds?

Busy with projects outdoors, and feeding the birds, small to the tall turkeys, and the deer/Yes, I have a lifetime list in my bird book, but don't have a clue how many, maybe I shall count them one cold winters day.
